French NGOs Call For The Release Of All Political Prisoners In Russia
On June 12, 2013, on the same day as thousands of protesters marched in Moscow to protest against the regime’s crackdown on civil liberties, Amnesty International France, the International Federation of Human Rights, and the Russian NGO based in Paris, Russie-Libertés held a demonstration in the centre of Paris.
The three NGOs called for the release of all political prisoners and for freedom and justice in Russia. The protesters shouted that the only way in which Russia will ever be free from corruption and abuses of the rule of law will be when President Putin resigns.
They also carried banners featuring pictures of political prisoners, including Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Platon Lebedev and the jailed members of Pussy Riot.
