Khodorkovsky’s Philanthropy Remembered

November 1, 2012

Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s groundbreaking contribution to Russian philanthropy has been acknowledged by the founders of a new project called the “School of Civil Initiatives.” The project has been set up by Mikhail Prokhorov, the leader of the Civil Platform party, and Alexei Kudrin, head of the Civil Initiatives Committee, and will support civil and social initiatives. Kommersant reports that the founders compare it to the “School of Public Politics”, established by Khodorkovsky in the 2000s, prior to his arrest.

Khodorkovsky’s work was also mentioned in the World Affairs journal in a review of a new book by Nadia Diuk, entitled “The Next Generation in Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan: Youth, Politics, Identity, and Change.” The review notes Khodorkovsky’s pioneering work in the 1990s, through his “New Civilisation initiative”, to instill in young Russians the values of democracy and civic awareness.
