Latest Magnitsky Bill Submitted by U.S. Congress

Fifteen U.S. Representatives have submitted a the updated Sergei Magnitsky Bill which imposes visa bans and asset freezes for Russian officials associated with Sergei Magnitsky’s death reports Natalya Krainova of The Moscow Times.

On Thursday, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission published on its website that the bill was a modified version of the one submitted to the chamber in April 2011. Accordign to a Friday statement from Magnitsky’s former employer, Hermitage Capital, Representative James McGovern said, “Since Russian authorities have not provided justice to Mr. Magnitsky and his family, the United States should do what it can to hold individuals accountable for these heinous crimes.”

Magnitsky’s supporters have named 60 officials to be included in the list to be sanctioned by Western governments. The Library of Congress published the latest version of the Magnitsky bill on its website on Friday.
