Mikhail Khodorkovsky: Making an enemy of Putin
Speaking to Hardtalk’s (link) Stephen Sackur Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the dissident businessman and Putin’s most prominent critic in exile, has told the BBC a Western oil and gas embargo would deal the president “a very serious blow”. He said such a measure would cause Mr Putin “to lose over half his revenue” and questioned whether Moscow could continue to wage war in Ukraine after such an impact on the federal budget.
He added an important point:
“Your choice (the West) is either defeat Putin on the territory of Ukraine, or later… on the territory of one of the Nato countries.”
Mikhail Khodorkovsky said that President Putin believes “he is already at war with Nato and the US.”
