Platon Lebedev’s lawyers file appeal to Supreme Court Chairman

June 14, 2012

Platon Lebedev’s defence team has submitted an appeal under supervisory procedure to Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev.

The former Menatep CEO’s lawyer, Aleksey Miroshnichenko, said:

“At the base of this complaint filed to the Supreme Court Chairman lies the fact that Judge Voronov’s refused to accept our supervisory complaint to the Judicial Board, whilst not being able to refute one single argument proposed. Instead of analysing the complaint, Voronov continued to repeat the contested court judgment of Khamovnichesky, thus undermining his judicial responsibilities.

If the country’s senior Judge will acknowledge this fact, then overturning Voronov’s decision and the supervisory review should be the only reaction. Any other decision made could indicate unlawful motives. It is obvious that the possibility of a review in the court is uncomfortable to our opponents…. the Supreme Court must understand this.

Vyacheslav Lebedev’s decision will have symbolic implications, for both this particular case and beyond. Platon Lebedev also has the right to file his own individual supervisory appeal to the Supreme Court Chairman.”
