YouTube takes down “The Family”
YouTube has taken down “The Family”, the hard-hitting documentary exposé by Open Russia about Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
The actions were taken in response to complaints about copyright violations, filed by Moscow-based T&K Production. Details of the violations have not been disclosed.
The film has been blocked in Russian, French, and German. But the version with English subtitles is still available online on YouTube. The documentary can also be viewed through Vimeo.
Open Russia has stated that the complaints are unfounded, as all materials were used legally and the authors of the materials were given credit. Open Russia is appealing against YouTube’s decision, and expects the film to be again available soon.
Before it was blocked, the video had attracted 900,000 views.
