A book ‘Alexei Pichugin – highways and byways (biographical essay)’ describing the persecution of the former Yukos security chief, sentenced to life imprisonment in 2005, is now available online.

Written by Vera Vasyleva, the correspondent of HRO.org portal, the biography was first published by The Human Rights Publishers in Prague in 2011.

On October 23, 2012 the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled that Pichugin’s trial was unfair and on March 19, 2013 the ECtHR declared its decision to be final. Consequently, the Chairman of Russia’s Supreme Court, Vyacheslav Lebedev, has ordered the Presidium of the Supreme Court to review the case against Alexei Pichugin with the hearing scheduled for October 2, 2013.
