Khodorkovsky Written Out Of Russia’s History

October 31, 2013

After many months of consideration, the new revised history textbook for schools in Russia has finally been produced – with no mention of Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

The publication of the new textbook of modern history of Russia (1991 – 2012), was reported on Russian newswire Rosbalt.

The authors have not included Mikhail Khodorkovsky in events, despite his significant role in Russia’s modern history.  Boris Berezovsky is similarly excluded. All Russia’s Presidents are mentioned, as well as personalities such as, Egor Gaidar, Anatoly Chubaits, Victor Chernomyrdin, Ruslan Khasbulatov, Alexander Rutskoi, Gennady Zyuganov, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Aslan Maskhadov, Ahmad Kadyrov, Zurab Tsareteli, Leonid Roshal, Zhores Alferov, Vitaly Ginsburg, and Sergey Kapitsa.

In the revised text, new names have also appeared, such as Yuri Shevchuk, the leader of the Russian rock band DDT, writers Boris Akunin and Victor Pelevin, a pianist Zhores Alferov, and an actress Chulpan Khamatova.

Dmitry Livanov, Russia’s Minister of Education and Science, said that “the content of history textbooks should be determined by the professional community, our only function is to organise that public discussion”.

The final version of the new history textbook will be approved by President Vladimir Putin this Friday, November 1.
