London’s Frontline Club ‘Khodorkovsky: A Decade Behind Bars’ Event Tonight

London’s foremost media club will host an exclusive performance of Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s writings tonight to mark his tenth year spent behind bars in a Russian jail.

The readings at the Frontline Club are being directed by Noah Birksted-Breen, the artistic director of the Sputnik Theatre Company, and are based on a selection of Khodorkovsky’s writings and interviews.

The performance will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Edward Lucas, the international editor of The Economist and author of Deception: Spies, Lies and how Russia Dupes the West and will include panellists Sir Tony Brenton and Ben Judah.  Sir Tony is a former British Diplomat, who served as Ambassador to Russia from 2004-2008, is a Fellow of Wolfson College Cambridge and is currently writing a book on Russian history.  Ben Judah, was a former Reuters reporter in Moscow before joining the European Council on Foreign Relations in London as a Russia analyst; he is currently a visiting fellow at the European Stability Initiative and is author of Fragile Empire: How Russia Fell in and Out of Love with Vladimir Putin.

The performance director, Noah Birksted-Breen previously directed a production of Elena Gremina’s play One Hour and Eighteen Minutes, dealing with the death of renowned Russian whistleblower Sergei Magnitsky.
