“Human rights campaigners, albeit informally, have become part of the state machinery, human rights officials. I’ll give an example that I find very significant. These trials against Khodorkovsky, Lebedev, Pichugin are wrong, unsubstantiated, false, they suffer from innumerable procedural violations. Yet Amnesty International, once an unblemished and respected organisation, does not recognise them as prisoners of conscience. The Yukos case is a direct rejection of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is its demolition”
