German MEP Schulz Calls on Russia to Accept ECHR Decision and Release Khodorkovsky

Khodorkovsky and Lebedev trial unfair, says Green MEP Schulz

Commenting on today’s decision of the European Court of Human Rights on the trial of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev says the Green MEP Werner Schulz, Vice-Chairman of the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, said:

“The European Court of Human Rights has confirmed that the trial of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev was unfair and therefore violated basic fundamental rights. I call on Russia to accept the decision of the ECHR and reverse the judgments against Khodorkovsky and Lebedev and immediately release both.

The decision of the ECHR proves once again that Russia has violated human rights in the repression of the political opposition. This is also the case against Pussy Riot, Sergei Magnitsky and Alexei Navalny. As a member of the Council of Europe, Russia must meet its obligations and ensure the rule of law.”
