Khodorkovsky Will Participate in His Appeal Hearing Tomorrow

August 5, 2013

Tomorrow, August 6, Russia’s Supreme Court will hear Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s and Platon Lebedev’s appeal against their second trial (December 2010) and conviction. Mikhail Khodorkovsky is expected to participate in the hearing via video link.

The defence team has argued in the appeal that “the contested verdict and subsequent judicial acts are unjust and rendered with numerous violations of the law and thus are subject to cancellation with termination of the case.”

The Supreme Court, however, announced in May that the December 2010 verdict will be reviewed only partially, in terms of whether the sentence should be reduced due to changes in the volume of funds described in the charges. It will not, therefore, be reviewing the guilty verdict itself.
