Open Russia to Support European Platform for Democratic Elections Observer Mission for the Presidential Election in Ukraine

May 12, 2014

May 12, 2014, Moscow: Open Russia (OR), which has re-launched its activity under Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s leadership, will provide assistance to the European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE) in its election observation efforts for the upcoming Ukrainian presidential elections taking place on May 25, 2014.

Last week, the EPDE invited any organizations and institutions interested in free and fair elections to provide financial, informational and other support for its international mission of short-term observers.

“Given the drama of Ukraine’s historic situation that will provide the backdrop for the Presidential election in May, Open Russia aims to expand the range of observers, including from Russia, as well as achieve enhanced monitoring, by observers, of polling stations across Ukraine,” explained Mikhail Khodorkovsky. “The experience, reputation and international credibility of the European Platform for Democratic Elections instills confidence in the professionalism of the observers’ mission being sent by that organization. I hope that the cooperation between the EPDE and OR will result in the presence of up to a thousand independent observers from among Russians”.
